“The secret to having it all is believing you already do.” -Unknown
The simple life is something I think about a lot. What does it mean? I always say that I strive for a simple life but what is that? There are certain things I picture when I daydream about it: my own garden, putting life before work, giving back to the community, living a minimalist lifestyle. I know it means different things to different people so I’d like to attempt to articulate what I mean.
Time is rushing by. I can’t seem to keep up with it. Sometimes you really want the next stage of life to happen because it’s exciting, but what about the right now? What about the moments that make up the present? I want to enjoy every minute because I need to remember, we only get those moments once.
Our society continues to tell us that we need more stuff (but we don’t!). If you break it down to a simpler life filled with experiences, meaning and love, the material stuff won’t even matter. I’m not saying we don’t need to work and earn money to buy things like food and shelter. However, do we need the big car? Do we need a new outfit for every event? Do we need the debt that keeps piling up?
I’m not trying to be self-righteous. I haven’t reached that simple life yet but I would like to work on it. That’s why I began this site, to discuss the simpler things and to work towards a more humble lifestyle. Working towards it is all we can continue to do.
